I promised CheekyZhu I’d make a quick tutorial on how to make custom brushes on Paint Tool SAI, I thought I’d post it here just in case anyone else was wondering about this. It took me a while to find this out myself as I thought you had to download them and place them under a brush folder like you do with Photoshop but with PTS you can get brushes in a few minutes.
{ I didn’t really have any examples of the lineart brush I use but the above drawing is what it’s like. }
How To:
On the first photo, I right clicked an empty grey space within the brush tray. Doing so will come up with a box that has the options;
- Cancel (X)
- Pencil
- Airbrush
- Brush
- Watercol
- Marker
- Eraser
- SelBrush
- SelEraser
- Bucket
- BinaryPen
If you’re looking for a lineart brush, then the brush setting is possibly the best way to go. With the right settings, it feels/has the effects of a G-Pen which I really like considering the thinness and thickness you can get in one line.
- Density: 100
- Blending: 0
- Dilution: 0
- Persistence: 0
- Uncheck Keep Opacity
- Quality: 4 - (Smoothest)
- Edge Hardness: 0
- Min Density: 0
- Min Density Pressure: 50%
- Hard <-> Soft: 50
- Check: Dens
- Check: Size:
- Uncheck: Blend
To rename the brush, simply double click it once done. //Toolazytonameitrightnow
Anyway, after it’s on the brush pallette, you’ll be presented with a bunch of different settings underneath, if you click the advanced settings drop down box then the custom options such as quality, edge hardness, min density will appear. e.t.c
Feel free to copy my lineart settings! The main point of custom brushes is to experiment with different options but there are loadssss of different settings other people post online that you can use to make the same brush. Deviantart is a good example of some of the brushes that are available.
